Printer is offline

I have an HP Envy 4500 printer and my PC tells me that the printer is offline. I check "Use Printer Online" and it still ends up being offline. I've restarted the PC, printer, and the router. I've checked the Internet signal and it's supposedly excellent. I printed a page this week with no problem. What can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Printer is offline

And shortly after I post this topic, I think I've fixed my problem going forward? What causes printers to go offline and what's a quick fix?

Re: Printer is offline

I think the trick is to post a question on DVDTalk. Sorry I can't help.

Re: Printer is offline

Mine does that once in a while and I usually end up having to unplug the power cord from the printer, wait a minute, and plug it back in. That usually does the trick.

Re: Printer is offline

If it's a network attached printer, wifi or ethernet, sometime it's IP address may change, and that's why your PC shows the printer as offline.

Quick fix: remove the printer and add it again.

Real fix: Give a static IP address to your printer. Check your router manual to verify how to do that.

There's your problem: I've had three clients who had one of HP's "Envy" line of printers, and they have all been complete junk. I think they named them that as some kind of cruel joke, as in "I bought one of these and now envy my friend who bought the Brother".

But seriously, using a static IP helps. What really helped my clients was ditching the weird, proprietary port HP wants to use and adding a standard TCP\IP port to print to instead.
