I don't think it has Bluetooth. It has 2 USB but she uses one and doesn't want another blocked. Too inconvenient for her. The last keyboard wasn't laggy at all. Everything is hooked to wireless router. I thought this would be much more common...

Re: Wi-fi Keyboard and mouse?

Wi-Fi typically refers to the wireless connectivity to the internet, so you don't want a Wi-Fi keyboard and mouse. You just want a wireless one The computer being on Wi-Fi is irrelevant.

Plenty to search for on Amazon or whatever, I've used Logitech stuff way back and they worked just fine.

That said, if you don't have bluetooth then typically the wireless keyboard/mouse will use a small receiver that you have to plug in to a USB port. If it's just a matter of not having enough USB ports, you can just buy a USB hub.

she doesn't want one that uses a USB port. the one she was using until she spilled water on it came with the HP PC, i think, and thus i can't find it again. i don't know what it used, but it didn't use a USB receiver. the keyboard model no: KG-0981 is not sold separately apparently.

The very first link when searching on Google for that product number shows a USB receiver.

Same with a product listing on Ebay.

Sounds like you should double check. Or as usual, do more research. Plus, pretty sure the only wireless keyboards and mice i've seen use a small USB receiver or need Bluetooth so unless this PC uses something proprietary built in, tell your mom tough shit

Re: Wi-fi Keyboard and mouse?

Get her a cheap USB hub if she needs more ports. Don't overthink (and overpay) this.

What does she have in the 1st port already? If it's a monitor, many of them have ports built-in you can chain out as well.

Re: Wi-fi Keyboard and mouse?

Yeah, the KG-0981 is a standard Radio Frequency (RF) Wireless Keyboard, not Wi-fi. If she's using an HP All-in-one PC, odds are it just has the USB receiver built-in.

Unfortunately, one of the quirks with RF receivers is they're normally programmed/keyed for a single corresponding keyboard, so you'll need a new USB wireless dongle + keyboard to use it.

Case in point, these HP computers have an additional USB port inside the computer itself: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04013746

Re: Wi-fi Keyboard and mouse?

I fail to see how a USB hub or a cheap USB keyboard with built-in USB ports doesn't solve this problem...
