Need to download multiple work files at once from single FTP folder. Can it be done?

I have a job this week where I need to access about 100 files in a single folder located on an FTP site. Then I need to transfer them to my portable drive. It would be way too time consuming and tedious to attempt to download each individual file.

Is there any way this can be done? I just want to download the entire folder with all the sub folders and elements I need in it. I'm trying to do this via Chrome.

Get a FTP client app like FileZilla or similar.

This is the easiest way. Most work like File Explorer.

In theory, this should work but it's always been hit or miss for me. I don't care enough to configure my firewall and anti-virus so I use a client. FTP is so old and established the client software I use is literally 15 years old.

Just run the "ftp" client from a cmd.exe prompt, and login to the ftp site, type "open ftp.whatever.com". Type 'bin' to enable binary file transfers. Then cd to the directory where your files are, and finally "mget *.*" should grab all the files easilly.

This was the most expeditious way 20 years ago, and still is for me.

Thanks for the suggestion about using File Zilla. I had never used that before.

Turns out, the folder on the FTP site had 15,000 files to download!!!

Took over 4 1/2 hours to download. It only took about 20 minutes to transfer them to a portable drive. But, glad I got it done ahead of time, it would have been a nightmare doing that on the day of my work assignment.

If it does, you can type "prompt" to turn on/off the prompts.

That said, mget is not recursive.
