Re: Memory cards not working in my laptop

What's the model of the laptop?

Did you reboot? Try updating the driver? Uninstall and reinstall the reader?

You could also try a USB card reader to try and determine if it's the cards or the built-in reader at fault.

Another thing to try is to boot an alternate OS, like a Linux Live CD, and see if that can see/use the card reader.

Re: Memory cards not working in my laptop

Its a lenovo thinkpad. I will have to post the excact model number later.. I guess its really the 4in1 card reader. A memory stick in the usb drive works fine.
I dont know how to find it in the list of hardware items. I'm thinking something got bent inside and i need to replace it.

Re: Memory cards not working in my laptop

In Device Manager it should appear under Disk Drives:

If it's not there, look for an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. If that's not there, it could be undetected. If something damaged a pin so it shorts out, it may not come up at all.

Re: Memory cards not working in my laptop

Most common reason for this is dust in the card reader. Try blowing it out with some canned/compressed air or the like.

Realtek is the brand. PCIe is the connection type it uses inside the laptop.

You can try updating the driver for that. If that doesn't work, you can try removing it from device manager, then scanning for hardware changes and installing it again.

Re: Memory cards not working in my laptop

Thanks, nothing is working.. Its probably broken. It used to be very difficult to insert the SD card, then all of the sudden it was real easy. That's probably when it broke. I was thinking of repairing it, but its probably not worth it. I will just buy a $3.00 SD card to USB adapter.

Re: Memory cards not working in my laptop

first of all check your card is working fine with other devices. If yes then reboot the laptop or uninstall and reinstall the drivers. If still not then install the drivers identifier software and check if some drivers are missing update them. Usually due to some other drivers this situation can occur.
