What's the best way to clean a Win 10 C: drive?

While playing in some unsavory corners of the internet this win 10 pc started slowing down bandwidth to a trickle (while MacBook on same network was going 70mbps) adblock plus uninstalled itself from Firefox too.

Anyway, I uninstalled Firefox but Avast, Kaspersky, malwarebytes and Windows defender found nothing. Even scanned in safe mode.

I'm still not convinced there's no virus. Should I take out the HD, hook it up to the MacBook to scan? What scanner should I use? Or something else?

Please help! Thanks!

You can run a quick online check with HijackThis:

Format. Install Win7 and malwarebytes and be a happy camper once again.

Windows 10 on its own is fine. Also, he doesn't mention which version of Windows it came with, so installing Windows 7 might entail buying a Windows 7 license.

It could be a failing harddrive. Those are known to slow everything down. Run a harddrive diagnostic.

Ignore zyzzle.

My go-to solution is to back up my data, make a list of my "important" programs, do a clean-install of Windows, re-install the important programs, and restore my data. I realize this isn't what most people want to do, but it works well.

Windows 10 has an option to make the clean-install part a lot faster and easier. I can't remember exactly where, but it's somewhere in the new Settings menu.

The "Remove Everything" option after you Troubleshoot > Reset this PC. It will basically re-install a clean version of Windows 10:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...covery-options

Note that this does what it says, it removes everything that isn't Windows 10, so be sure to back up important files (which should already be backed up anyway).
