4k Video Downlaoder works good.

Youtube-dl works good, too, but it saves the audio in OPUS format. Can it download best video with AAC audio?

It looks like online.4kdownload.com works as well without installing any app? It appears to be the same as 4kdownload?

I've been using MovieJack that I believe was a giveawayoftheday.com product a few months ago. Copy/paste the URL and it downloads the video. I normally just D/L everything in HD720 because it suits my needs.

Re: Best YouTube video download app.

For the last few months, 4k video downloader no longer gives me the option to download Youtube videos at 4K - even though the video is offered as 4K on Youtube.

The max I get is 2k.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Re: Best YouTube video download app.

What Format do you have selected? If it's "MP4" then you will only be offered 2K max, because YouTube has not provided 4K video with h.264 codec for about a year now. YouTube only offers 4K video with the VP9 codec (not a valid codec for MP4 container), so in 4K Video Downloader, you'll only see the 4K option with the MKV format.

Yeah, I noticed that last week.

I went to the site and the download page came up normally, I pasted in the link, and it threw up the "new" page. I thought I had accidently clicked on a help link or something, but no...

I wonder what happened. Is youtube going to start cracking down on these services?

I like to download videos and put them on flash drives to watch on my tv. The youtube apps on my blu-ray player and tv are clumsy to use and everything is preceded by a fucking ad.

Probably. They have Youtube Red now, which offers the ability to download videos (in a "cache") and to not have ads, for a fee.

$10 a month for YouTube Red is ridiculous.

You can get it free with a Google Play Music subscription, so it's a bonus in that since over something like Spotify.

Re: Best YouTube video download app.

VideoDownloadHelper now gives me an error when I try to download from Youtube. I did install the second program it says I need, but it doesn't seem to work.

VDH has been wonky since the last major update, though.

A couple of weeks ago there was a video on Dailymotion I wanted to keep, and it took about five tries to finally get VDH to snag it.

Why even use add-ons dude? Just go for any of the youtube video conversion sites. TubeGeter(dot)com is the best for me. you can also download entire playlists with it

If it's a conversion site then why is it a .msi download that then needs a license key?

Re: Best YouTube video download app.

^Spammer is my guess.

As others have noted, 4kvideodownloader doesn't work very well anymore. JD2 is probably the best option currently. Bigasoft Video Downloader Pro is another very good piece of software.

Thanks - I actually switched to this one because of your post and I like it more than the wise video down loader.

Re: Best YouTube video download app.

There are many YouTube video downloading apps are available like Videoder, TubeMate and SnapTube but yes, we can't take the responsibility that how safe surfing or downloading they offer.

I thought others had. Anyway, it doesn't recognize some Yt videos anymore, and choice of video quality in no longer an option.

If you're not afraid of the command-line, I've found youtube-dl to work really well in identifying videos and all the audio/video options for it, when my other YT download tools of choice fail. I run the Windows version with the "--no-check-certificate" flag. Also, you have to periodically download a new version whenever YT makes a change that breaks it.

^Thanks, but I prefer non-command-line software.
