AVS Video Converter Stopped Converting

I have AVS Video Converter version 9 on my PC and have used it to convert videos to WMV format. However, yesterday it decided to stop converting and gives me the following message:

"Cannot create file. Probably your output file has a read only attribute, or it is occupied with another application, or you used and invalid name for your file, etc."

I actually purchased a full version of this yesterday (I had one with a limited life) and it typically works well after tha, so I cannot understand why it would just stop working. I have tried rebooting the PC and even converting files that were successfully converted in the past. Nothing works. I contacted the support line but rather than give me someone, they just submitted an e-mail on my behalf to support, which means they have no real intention of resolving my problem.

If nothing else, can anyone please get me a link to a video converter that works well and doesn't take forever? Thanks!

Did you uninstall/reinstall it? Have you tried having the target destination be a different drive? Is it currently an internal or external drive?

Re: AVS Video Converter Stopped Converting

Download FFMPEG
http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
Put video in same folder as ffmpeg.exe
Open notepad and type:
ffmpeg -i a.mp4 a.wmv
Save as convert-wmv.bat
Put batch file in same folder and run the batch file.

Other than that, contact AVS tech for help since you just purchased from them.

Edit: Not sure if FFMPEG will/can properly convert to WMV. Do you know what WMV codec you need? You are converting mp4 video to WMV?

Try Format Factory. It's freeware and converts virtually anything to virtually anything.

Did you try contacting AVS support? You just bought a copy of it, I'm pretty sure support comes with a paid copy.

Edit, silly me, of course you have:

Re: AVS Video Converter Stopped Converting

I haven't used this software before. Instead I keep using Video Converter program to do video conversion. I shot many AVCHD videos with my Nikon camcorder and want to transfer them to Mac. But Mac doesn't support AVCHD. Therefore, I use Video Converter to convert AVCHD to MP4/ MOV so that I can watch those videos on Mac. It's quite convenient to do video conversion on my own.

iMovie has supported importing AVCHD for a few years now:

If you don't want to import into iMovie right away, you can make a disc image of the SD card that iMovie will recognize:
