Gmail Inbox --- Is it the best thing since sliced bread?

A lot of people are raving about this, but it's invitation-only for right now. Has anyone tried it? Is it worth getting excited about? What do you like or don't like?

Of course, if anyone has an invitation they'd be willing to send me, I'm not above begging!

I have it, although I can't decide yet if it's better than GMail. Email is arranged differently, by conversations, and you classify mail differently after you read it - there is a status called "done" but I am not sure if the mail is archived or trashed. In short, it does take some getting used to.

The good thing is that you can keep the standard GMail and Inbox as 2 different things on your phones (Android and iOS) and on your PC, so you can use whichever you prefer at the moment. GMail just recently got a facelift although it hasn't reached the Play store yet, so I want to see how Inbox compares to the new GMail.

I got 3 invites which I gave away already. If you want an invite from Google, send an email to [email protected]. That's what I did, and I got an invite in a few days.

I got it earlier today; not sure if i'm a fan of it. Am I able to invite people? Not sure where to see if I have available invites.

You can invite 3 people. Touch (on your phone) or move the cursor (on your PC) over the orange + symbol at the lower right corner. You should see a few buttons pop up, and one of them is to send out invites.

I see the + sign, but no option to invite anyone. Just looks like frequent contacts (?), reminders, and compose.

That's strange. Maybe you have to wait a day or so before you can invite. Each of the 3 people I invited is now able to invite 3 other people.

I got an invite from Google, but when I try to set it up, it says I don't... So I just deleted it.

I want to try it but it'll only work for gmail at the moment so I won't be able to use it for my default app since I have several different ones plus my work email on my phone.

If anyone wants to send an invite my way I'd appreciate it. I remember when Gmail was invite only way back when. Seems like a century ago.

Hey, me first!

I emailed Gmail about two weeks ago for an invitation and still haven't received one.

In the meantime I've been enjoying the recent update to the standard Gmail app. It's much cleaner looking.

Here's the page about invites, but apparently I don't have that icon to invite people. Boo!

EDIT: I guess it does take some time. https://productforums.google.com/for...il/B_bxlyziYko

How do I invite friends to use Inbox?
Within your first week of using Inbox you will receive 3 invites to share with friends (there isn’t a set date/time for when these invitations will appear).

Playing around with it today, both on the web interface and the app; I don't really get the "done" thing either. In the app I see it moved to a separate Done category (there's also Snooze) but when I did that to all social stuff all those emails basically went away in the regular Gmail web interface. I guess they're still searchable, but as someone that's used to clicking around normally I'm not sure I like that function at all.

Apparently, Google will send out Inbox invites automatically today for 1 hour only, starting in around 2.5 hours.

So basically giving the finger to everybody that has already put in for an invite but hasn't gotten one yet.

Agreed, but at least I can get a damned invitation sooner rather than later.

Emailed them at 3:00 PM PST. No invite and it's already 6 PM PST. I don't really care, but don't advertise what you can't deliver.

Yeah, they're slow and just started sending them out.

I did end up getting one. Seems like Gmail just applied smart filters automatically.

I've had it for a couple of weeks, but I guess I'm so used to the iPhone setup, I don't go into the Inbox app too often. I'm kinda "meh" about it.

My invitation came while I was at a showing if "Interstellar," so I won't get a chance to play with it until tomorrow.

So does this finally unify their email apps? That's my one biggest beef with android, they had 2 separate email apps, one for GMail, and then another for pop/imap. DUMB. (yes, you could techically just use the pop one and set up your gmail account there, but then you'd lose push, and a bunch of gmail features)

For what it's worth, the new GMail app allows you to add accounts from other providers now.

This app doesn't, but as fumanstan says, Gmail 5.0 does and it works very well.
