No boot device found? Laptop help please.

Today my gf's Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 just crapped out without any sign whatsoever.

It froze and then restarted only to be told. ''No boot device found. press any key (where's the anykey? ) to reboot computer''

And there's NOTHING i can do, i can't even get to the BIOS or anywhere to try to maybe futz around. there is nothing to do except press any key to reboot only to have the same error message over and over again.

I assume it's the hard drive that's at fault here. And we even tried opening the laptop up and taking the drive out and replugging it back it and to no avail.

She's only had the laptop for 6 months! Yes we still have the 1 year warranty from Dell but i assume this process will be long and arduous. I guess i'm here looking for any advice from my fellow nerds out there.

Thanks for ANY input!

If it's under warranty, don't muck around with it.

And yes, "no boot device found" would imply a HDD issue as that is likely the only bootable drive in the device.

As for entering the BIOS, it should be F2. F12 should allow the changing of the boot order.

yep, your drive has most likely crapped out

Hope you had a backup

The only reason to mess with it at this point is to try and recover data

Otherwise call Dell and have them send you a new drive. They will ask you to run Dell Diags and provide the error code, and it is pretty painless after you run the diags. Dell usually won't hassle you on a hard fail with a diagnostic code.
