Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

According to the Verge, Android Wear is likely going to update with iOS compatibility soon. The question is, will it basically be a Pebble with a better display, or will it be able to interact with and dismiss notifications?

I was thinking that the HR Monitor would sync with the phone (as a source through the Health app), and then that data would be made available to other HealthKit-compatible apps. But I guess I don't know if the Watch can skip that step - is it somehow implicitly registered in HealthKit as an extension of the iPhone, so that it gets access to everything automatically, or is it something you have to go in and give permission to explicitly? And if so, does it work without the iPhone being present in the middle?

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Interesting that the reviews are saying the heart rate monitor function isn't accurate. Wasn't that one of the big selling points for the iwatch? The answer is now that it can tether to a seperate heart rate monitor. So now you have yet another piece of tech. Surprising.

Speaking of....I was in Best Buy at lunch and was looking at the Moto 360. That is a pretty damn big watch itself.

Well the way the review said it, is that HR strap could "sync" with the watch. Now again, I think we are all getting use to terminology so he may have meant iPhone that then reads to the watch. Which I'm sure it can do since the phone itself can connect to a HR strap. So the question is can, can you really "connect" the HR strap directly to the watch with no iPhone between? If so, I think that is fairly significant. While some runners really insist on GPS, not everyone runs for exercise. Or runs for distance. Or runs more than HIIT or needs a map. Having a HR strap with no iPhone between them would really make the watch, I would think, useful to cross fit peeps, as an example.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Several reports said that the Apple Watch was accurate within 5 bpm of a chest monitor.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

I seem to recall one reviewer saying they found it more accurate than most smart watches, but less so than a dedicated chest monitor. I'm sure it's sufficient for most uses.

Not to get this into a holy war thread, but having seen it in person, I have to agree. I don't know if it just the raw size, but I've been thinking that one reason why it seems bigger is that the strap seems to run pretty low on the Moto 360 - it seems like a disc sitting on top of your wrist. The straps on the Apple Watch attach to the body a bit more towards the front, and blend into the body more gradually. To me it gives me the impression of being around your wrist instead of on top of it.

I don't know, it's all subjective, and I haven't seen it in person yet, but I think this helps make the Apple Watch seem a bit smaller, even if it isn't that much smaller in reality.

The in-person appointments are live in some countries right now, like Hong Kong and Australia, and pics are going up. Search instagram for #applewatch. Here's a photo from someone on Macrumors (spoilered for size):

And another photo from the same poster of the SS Sport (not on his wrist):

My body is ready.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Damn....I feel like I should report you for posting porn....lol

I have to admit that that is popped into my head to get the space grey SS Apple Watch. But it looks like it only comes w/the link band which I love. But that pushes the cost to a $1,000+

So, I've got my iPhone alarm set to wake me to order the space grey Sport w/black band for $400 + Apple Care+ for $60.

I was going to go try them tomorrow...but opening day for the Rangers at home....so might do that instead.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Honestly, I think the SG Sport looks amazing. The stainless steel also looks great, but I won't pay that much for gen 1, even if I do wait two or three years to upgrade.

And if I do go to look at the watches it won't be till next week. I may just wait till mine arrives and marvel at it.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Order in as soon as Apple Store "opened". Delivery May 13-27! ;(

Didn't give me the option for Apple Care. I'm sure I can get that later.

Oops.....I must have just missed the order Apple Care. Oh....I'll get later.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

What's the over/under for weekend sales? Total pre-orders?

Peeble sold a million so far. And I think I read where all others combined didn't sell a million.

While I don't think initial sales while be the end all be all for success, it will be interesting. Can't believe how far pushed back delivery is already. Pretty surprised.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Okay, turns out 4-6 weeks is the May 13-27 date, so we're in the same boat.

As of now, every single model of the Watch is at least at 4-6 weeks availability, including the Edition ones!

My guess is more smart watches were ordered last night than all smart watches that have been sold total as of Thursday combined. Either that or Apple has VERY limited stock.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

I went with the 42mm Steel watch with the classic leather band. 699 + 69 apple care + tax = $832. I figured if I was spending that much for a nice watch the plastic band would be a little tacky. 4-6 weeks.

Sport models are now showing June shipping.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

I ordered the 42mm SG Sport. Delivery date is April 24th - May 8th. I had it saved under favorites in the Apple Store App and ordered within 20 seconds. You'd think I'd get a release date delivery.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

April 24th-May 8th was the initial delivery estimate, there was no guaranteed April 24th option at any point.

Don't think there is any doubt (about the number sold). But I am surprised. Apple Watch was announced a year ago. I know it wasn't finished at that time, but really didn't think there would be such short supply.

Very nice...good looking watch.

I had it stored as well. But when I woke up I wasn't thinking and just ordered normally. I still think I was done by 12:03. The only thing that slowed me is I wanted to use a different CC. So I had to switch that. I realized quickly I missed Apple Care+ but was afraid to take the time to go back and add it. I'll add it later. I'm assuming they give you 30 days like their other products.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

So I did make an appointment to try on for tomorrow night (6:30). Figured why not.

Interesting, only one store in my area has available to try on Edition. I wonder how they selected the stores that have Edition available.

Shit, mine isn't coming until June... But the watch looks and feels much better in person than I thought it was going to be.

That's good, in pics the thing looks kinda silly, but I imagine it'll look a bit better in person. How was the strap?

Thanks. For some reason I thought they said pre-order the 10th and get it on the 24th.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Tell you what, this changing checking accounts is a pain the ass. I didn't realize how much stuff I had tied to this account. I have had it 10+ years. But do have it now set up in Apple Pay instead of my CC. This is a huge deal to me as I'm one of those that rarely carries cash and use my debit card multiple times a day.
