good alternative to notepad?

I use notepad a lot for making lists/notes and things like that, however I dont like that I cannot change the font, colors, size, etc of specific parts (either all or nothing). I do like that it's a simple program that puts everything in one long list and is really easy to use.

I have tried looking up alternatives to notepad but everything that comes up is for coding which I don't want to do. anyone have a good option that is very similar to notepad but with a few more options? (and not microsoft word or anything similar)

This isn't for windows, but I use Basket for this sort of things. Maybe some windows programmers have thought about writing similar applications?

Re: good alternative to notepad?

I started using Google Keep for basic note taking a lot, since it syncs wherever I am.

Actually it turns out that there is KDE on Windows initiative so if you have Windows XP, Vista or 7, you can install Basket.

Yeah, I didn't understand how people could suggest NotePadd++ give the OP's requirements.

ResophNotes does handle those requirements.
