Help me ID this Apple accessory

Boss found it in a box in her house and has no idea what it does. She owns an iPhone 5 and an iPad, so I guess it could work with either one. I own no Apple produces so I'm obviously clueless, but it could also be part of an accessory because it doesn't seem to do anything. One end is obviously a standard USB plug and the other is a flat plastic/rubber piece with the Apple logo...on the back of the "logo" piece (not pictured) is a headphone-type plug. Maybe part of a dock? There's no part number or name anywhere.

Dock for an iPod Shuffle or "mini", most likely. My wife had one of those... but I can't remember which iPod it worked with. It's because those versions didn't have the standard Apple dock on them.

What do I win!?
