Any decent 15" laptops w/o numerical keypad?

I'm in the market for a new laptop. I see that most of the 15" laptops have that god-awful offset touchpad as a result of having a numerical keypad. I hate that. I want it in the center. I can't seem to find any laptops that don't have the numerical keypad. I can drop down to a smaller screen laptop to get that feature, but I'm not sure I want to do that.

Any suggestions?

You don't want to pay $2,000 for a laptop?

I think it's funny how today you can't find a 15" laptop without a 10-key, but when I was laptop shopping in March 2011 I had a hell of a time finding a 15" with a 10-key. It was a must-have feature when I purchased it, but the 2010 models I was looking at hardly had them.

yeah, that's what i've noticed. it seems like everything has shifted to that trend. i'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that many laptops now have touchscreens.

Same here. I bought my first laptop back around 2010-2011, and I wanted the numberpad and couldn't find any 15" models that had one.

The offset trackpad doesn't bother me because I never even use the trackpad. I use a mouse. I hate trackpads with a passion.

i use the trackpad because i use the laptop while sitting on a couch, so a mouse is not possible.

No, I don't. Little kids could knock a TV dinner tray over just as easily as they could knock the laptop out of your lap. A laptop sitting in your lap isn't anymore stable.

Not sure if it matters or a route you want to go, but there are certainly small wireless mice that would track on the couch. I know my Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX does. Although I guess that's not exactly comfortable either.

No they couldn't. My children don't run around on my couch. It is more stable in my lap.

yeah i trust a laptop way more on my lap than on a tv tray when the kids are running around. I have a mission style recliner with wide, flat, wood arms so i can use that to put the mouse pad on. Works great for Borderlands 2

Re: Any decent 15" laptops w/o numerical keypad?

I use a Thinkpad but my "throne" also has wide flat leather arms. Thinkpad on one arm, mouse on the other. Too heavy to have it constantly on my lap. But if you want a 15" for $500, you will most likely get stuck with a crappy 1366 x 768 resolution, unless you can find a Black Friday deal.

Re: Any decent 15" laptops w/o numerical keypad?

my current laptop is 1366x768 as it is, so that isn't terrible bothersome to me. it's just for general web surfing and occasional other minor tasks, so i don't need higher resolution screen if it is going to cost me quite a bit more.

Re: Any decent 15" laptops w/o numerical keypad?

those are both pretty good deals. i think i'm gonna try to go this route, though. it is going to be $399 on BF: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ctID.288325300

slightly cheaper and is more than enough for what i'm looking for. a higher resolution screen would be nicer, but i don't think it is worth $200 more since this is almost exclusively used for internet use on my couch hopefully i can snag one tomorrow night.

Re: Any decent 15" laptops w/o numerical keypad?

So I ended up with this: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-i15z-4801...l+inspiron+15z

Lightning sale on Amazon. It was $649. A bit more than I wanted to spend, but it was exactly what I was looking for. I wish it had a slightly better graphics card (or one at all ) but since this is mainly an internet machine for my family room, that wasn't a pressing need.
