Ok, can someone explain to this moron how come when I download, instead of what you see above(which was 15 MBPS just a few minutes before) I get a max of 1.8 MBPS, and even that is rare? I have an ATT 3600hgv 2WIRE.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Brighthouse finally boosted me from 10mb to 15mb (and finally added the CW on-demand!).

1) It depends on where you're downloading from
2) If you're uploading while downloading, you will see slower speeds.

Mine:

Meh.

Internet at work. I work at EPB, and this is the slowest speed offered. (~100Mbs)

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Anyone here with Time Warner or Comcast as your Internet provider?

http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/02/tech...r-cable-modem/

I just noticed on my new bill from TWC that my modem rental fee went up from $5.99 per month to now $8!!

According to the article, Comcast now charges $10 per month for a modem rental fee.

Getting kind of annoying how Internet costs just keep going up. My bill is now $57.99 per month, which I already think is kind of expensive. I know there are many here who rely heavily on internet for all their work and all their entertainment. I know for myself and many households, internet is pretty much mandatory to do a lot of things in life. But, I wonder if there is a price point for you where it would just be too expensive?

It is expensive. I pay $43 for 30 meg down and 1.5 up... I don't know why the uplink is so slow. That is the price for access only, I own my own equipment. Anyway the turds at suddenlink sent me a letter announcing my internet speed had gone up at no cost to me. Uh huh. Give it a couple of months... I guarantee a price hike is on the way. Fuckers.

are you required to rent a special modem or something? a docsis 3.0 modem can be purchased for like $50.

Twc has a list of approved modems for each level.

I suggest reading that list and buying ONLY what is on the list. I had a Docsis 3.0 modem and it did not give the the 300mb speed from TWC. Once I switched to one of the approved modems - it did.

Has to do with the number of channels. You can get 300mb from less channels IF your cable company support that..

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Not bad for off wi-fi. Although the up is a fraction of what I've gotten in the past.

Yes, docsis 3 requires only 4 bonded downstream channels. There are modems with 8 and 16 bonded downstream channels. Especially if you are in a high density area, it might be worth the investment to go with 16 bonded downstream channels.Of course it also depends on what the cable company has in your area. But 16 will be the most future proof.

Holy Toledo, Batman!

How can 613.3 Mbps only be 'faster than 94% of US'?

I'd think it's faster than 99.999% of US intead.

I guess SoCal is the wrong place to be if you want fast internet.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

I just got back from my aunts house helping her set up a new computer and printer. I noticed the new computer was extremely slow online, ran some speed tests and was only getting 1Mbps on TWC broadband. I asked if she had signed up for the cheap internet TWC was offering for $15 and she said she had not.

I call up tech support and as I'm on hold she finds her bill and it turns out she is on "lite internet" and not only is she insistent that she didn't downgrade her service (I know she had standard 15/20Mbps as part of her "triple play" bundle about a year ago), but they are still charging her $34 for 1Mbps even though they dropped the price to $15 (regular, non-promotional price) a while ago.

She also said she was on "triple play" but I noticed they had her on a TV+phone for one price plus "lite internet" as a separate charge. I get transfered from tech support to a CS rep and she tells me my aunt is on "triple play" and the only thing they can do is upgrade her to standard 15/20 for another $10 a month. At this point I had been on hold for half an hour and my Aunt said to just have them do it and she would go to the office on Monday and ream them for ripping her off and sort the bill out.

At this point the CS rep says my aunt needs a new cable modem box to get the speed upgrade, which she can't get until Monday, and I know that is complete BS because this is the same box she's had for years and her internet was never this slow when I worked on her computers previously.

Summary: Time Warner is a shitty company.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Yeah, that sucks. I did the "cheap" 1Mbps plan for a year or two when I was still getting settled in a new area.

In other news, Bright House Cable says they now offer a 300Mbps plan for residents. Not sure how much that costs.

I had Verizon 1mbps dsl. It was around $38/mo a few years ago after the promotion period. And they wouldn't lower it,so I cancelled it.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Just got a new service provider today

A huge step up from the 6mbps I had for years with AT&T DSL. And finally, no monthly caps!
