Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Moved apartments and cities today from San Diego up to Rancho Santa Margarita in Orange County. Also switched from AT&T Uverse to Cox Cable, as they don't have Uverse in my new place. My tv and internet cost is a bit more per month, but internet speed is a lot faster. I'd rather save the 20 bucks, and I actually prefer UVerse's TV lineup, but oh well. They really only have tiers of 5, 25, 50, and 100 and 5 is just too slow these days for me. I had 12 with AT&T.

TWC Upgraded me again for no charge. I did have to get a new modem though.. even though I had just bought my other one. But... no complaints.

Holy fuck, what do you pay for that connection?

Here is my current speed with Comcast for $70/month:

Moving to a new apartment and just getting another 50mbps line with Comcast. Max is 105mbps for $90/month. Although actual speeds are probably half that, as you can see above. Think I might need a new modem for better speeds though.

I'm interested to know too. Hopefully it's not crazy.

Yeah, as am I. That connection could be shared among 50 people!

Or, one, if a person wishes to download an *amazing* 146 GB per hour! (= 3 full BD50s per hour).

It's the Ultimate 100 plan from Time Warner Cable. It's $64.99 a month for the first year then goes up to $87.99.. no contract so you just call at the end of the year to complain about the new price and they give you the $64.99 a month again. Plus I have to now pay $5.99/mo for the modem but as soon as a compatible modem is released I can purchase my own.

So yeah I'm paying for 100 but getting 300+ because in NY and LA and a few others they are cranking up the speeds for free.. not sure why...

Great deal for only $65 / mo! Practically what Time Warner charges us gullible folk in the OC for a lousy 10 / 1 connection.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

I'm still on my regular service from Comcast. They've been decent enough to double bandwidth a few times to keep us happy, finally got another one the other day.

Not amazing but not terrible. Was 8mbs, then 16mbs, then 32mbs, now it's technically up to 64mbs but it has hit a few hiccups.

Not good for $70+ per month. To be fair, I've been having connectivity issues the last couple months and I'm finally able to have a technician come over today to fix it. It wasn't just a speed issue... it was the constantly dropped connection that frustrated me the most.

Will post my results after the issue's been fixed, although I'm sure it still won't compare to most here. We get ripped off on everything in Canada.

Even for Canada, that's crappy. I hope your issues are resolved. I'm with Rogers and I pay $60 before taxes and discounts. Take a look at the first page for my speed.

Your speeds look pretty damn good.

The technician came in and replaced my ancient modem (approx. 14 year old modem) and found the filter wasn't replaced outside - should've been when they moved to digital. Back up and running now.

That's roughly around the advertised speed of my internet package, but for $70+ a month - it really should be faster... although I'm not going to complain about the speed as it's plenty fast enough for me as I don't stream movies/shows. I would like to get a higher bandwidth cap though. 125GB per month is ridiculous.

Anyone who thinks 64 mbps is "not amazing, not terrible" has either:

1. real entitlement issues
2. is not using their connection in the appropriate way.
3. is paying some exorbitant rate per month (> $200?)

Or am I reading you wrong?

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Butting in here, but I don't see how it's any of those. These days I'd say 100 Mbps and up is "amazing" to me for home internet, especially since cable companies have been boosting speeds in a lot of areas for "free" so it really depends on where you live and what's available to you. Maybe you consider that entitlement, but that's just lucky circumstances to me.

With 300mbps - 1gbps being real possibilities out there, it really isn't amazing.

It also isn't by any stretch of the imagination terrible.

If it were 60 down/60 up, I would also qualify that as amazing.

But don't read it as a complaint. It isn't. I'm very happy with the speed.

I seriously hope Google is able to launch Google Fiber in more cities at a much faster rate of expansion to start putting pressure against cable companies. If Google Fiber ever came to Vegas, I'd switch zero questions asked. Fuck, I'd even pay for their top-tier service and get all the premium cable channels too as it's only a fraction of what Cox charges here.

Thanks to all for this speed test. I want to find out if my wifi is just low-end, or if ATT is throttling me on Netflix and Vudu.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

This is what I have now:

Note that while it says AT&T DSL, it's actually my EarthLink DSL connection. I may be switching to Comcast High-Speed Internet, since being a long-time Comcast customer they may give me a very nice deal on 50 megabits/second sevice.

^Actually, they give way better deals to people who have other cable providers than they give to their long time customers.

Yeah, and I live in Sac like RayChuang and have Comcast. "Tenure" with them means absolutely nothing. Your best deal is to completely drop their services and start over as a new customer.
