Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Did a speed test on my Pixel 6 Pro on Tmo/Google Fi and was suitably impressed considering how mixed the reaction to 5g generally is. Though I regret doing a full gig download

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

I just want speeds fast enough to stream on 2 TVs at once in HD without buffering. The areas outside of town are getting fiber while so far in town itís cable or dsl or nothing.

Iíve had FIOS 1GB for years now. Iím locked in to a $62mo deal with no contract but theyíre going to be offering 2GB here ina few months for $120mo. $62mo is so good I doubt Iíll upgrade. I canít really afford it anyways.

On the Verizon wireless 5g get more plan, thereís no cap and no deprioritization. There is a restriction on video streaming. On 5g uw, you can stream in 4K, but on 5g nationwide or lte, you only get 720p ( can be increased to 1080p if you pay an additional &10/mo). I have 5 lines and itís $50 per line.

If you are referring to Verizon 5g home, I have that as well but you are throttled to 300/20. Occasional slow downs but overall itís good. No cap but it is subject to depri. Not as much of an issue for me as I am in a residential area. Itís $25/mo with qualifying Verizon wireless plan. Way cheaper than the $75 i was paying for spectrum 200/10. My house doesnít have any fiber options.

Fiber is always better, but I was just curious. I am very tempted to go 2GB but once I do I lose my $62mo deal forever.

$62 for gigabit fiber is great! Guess the question is how much you need 2gb, given that itís basically double the price.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

That's gotta be cable, Fiber is almost always bi-directional speed.

Edit: I did a quick search, and it is indeed fiber.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

I have a question, I just installed fiber optic AT&T. I get great wireless speed on my iPhone in every room. Very happy.

However, one night, my work computer kept connecting and disconnecting to their VPN. It caught systems attention, so they contacted me and had me run a speed test. It significantly slower than speed test Iíve run on iPhone even though sitting right next to router.

Systems told me it was still within minimum for them, and to just let them know if it happens again (or while actually working)

Is it the VPN (the much, much slower speed - I think the connection thing was a fluke). Since I have a docking station and monitor right by router, I ordered a Cat6 cable and thought Iíd just plug it in. I work home office most of time when home. See if that will help.

Here is speed test off phone,

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

Is that your slower speed? That's awesome. Even on fiber optic I don't get that speed. I usually get 250-350 on my personal computer (which is connected to an Orbi satellite via ethernet, because it doesn't have wireless.)
How much slower was it from your work computer?
Wired should definitely be faster than wireless, and maybe you were connected to a different band that capped your speed?
I have noticed that sometimes connecting to my work VPN results in slower speed tests. Which makes sense, I guess - the signal is routing through additional servers, and they're corporate so they're probably more secure.

No, that off my personal iPhone connected to wifi. In same room (office) as router. It usually stays about 250/250 at farthest part of house. So pleased.

My work computer is currently also connected thru wifi, also in office. When my work reached out to me and had me run a speed test it dropped all the way down to like 40/40. Work said that was still well above minimum. And I pretty much only use work computer for work, so it isnít an issue. I just canít believe the difference.

When home for work, I leave it connected to docking station and use a big monitor. Docking station has an eithernet port, so ordered a Cat6 cable. If anything, one less thing connected to wifi.

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

There are occasionally issues between different wifi chipsets, so the cable should indeed fix your issue.

YeaÖthat didnít help. Speed test still shows really slow. But not having issues. I donít use to stream, play games or anything. So long as can get work doneÖ..and I can. It is an ďolderĒ HP laptop. So could be part of it,

Re: How fast is your internet speed?

40 mbps isn't that "slow"; it's perfectly usable, about a 5 mb/sec download speed, or a 1 gb file transferred in about 3 minutes So, just live with it; it might have to do with your old laptop having an obsolete wifi card, which only supports lower 802.11 protocols, like 802.11g, and not supporting dual 2.4 and 5ghz bands of bandwidth which 802.11n and 802.11ab provide. 5 Ghz is always preferable in speed to 2.4, especially at short range distances. Or, if you direct connect it with an ethernet cable, the system might only support 100 mbps LAN and not the more modern gigabit LAN speeds. Your reallife download speeds even with 100mbps LAN might only approach 50 mbps.
