A broken Sony LCD TV. Can it be repaired?

Someone is selling a Sony 40" LCD LED cheaply that has a flaw. There is a vertical stripe over the picture screen that only shows white. What can be the cause of this? And what are the prospects of repairing it?

(I am trying to add a jpg pic of the TV to this post from my computor folders, but I can't figure out how to.)

Call up a Sony repair shop and see if they can give you an estimate over the phone. Have you tried Google to see what other people have experienced?

Typically, any type of professional repair is going to cost more than a new one, which is why the person is selling it instead of getting it repaired.

How old is the TV? What model? how much?

If you're somewhat tech savvy, there are videos and how-tos online for simple fixes that could potentially fix such problems, at least temporarily. You should do a web search for that specific problem on that specific model TV and see if anyone's diagnosed the problem and has a fix.

Yea...wouldn't think worth the cost or time or trouble to repair. I bet he minimum charge is $200ish....

Re: A broken Sony LCD TV. Can it be repaired?

Thanks all!

It was a 2010 Sony LCD LED 40" model. I couldn't find the exact specific problem online, but it seems it might be caused by one of the circuits being loose and not connecting properly. So if lucky, it could just be enough to press it, or do a little soldering.

Unfortunately the seller would not ship to my area, so I dropped it.
