Re: Please help diagnosing a super slow internet download speed

could it be the router if other devices on the network pass the speedtests fine? Rebooting didn't help. Found some spyware with malwarebytes and they recommended rebooting, did it 2 times.

Could be, I had issues with one device having speed and connectivity issues, other devices on same router were fine

Re: Please help diagnosing a super slow internet download speed

Restarting router did nothing. The firmware needed to be updated so I did that, then rebooted the router, no good. Switched from wpa to wpa2, nothing. Tried safe mode with networking and speedtest.net gives same speeds. JUST my computer on the network of 5 computers, all downloading in their 20's

Is there diagnostic software out there to analyze my computer and why the internet is slow?

Re: Please help diagnosing a super slow internet download speed

72mbps is the intranet speed(speed between the router and device). This is different from the Internet speed, which is the speed coming into your house

Try hardwire (ethernet) your computer to the router. Eliminate the wireless network (and its attendant interference and reliability issues) as a variable, and see what kind of speeds your computer gets then. If the performance is still the same, then you know the issue is specific to something on your computer.

Yeah that's probably it. I had the same issue and my ISP help desk told me to do that. I got 50 Mbps on the Ethernet and 13 Mbps on the wireless.

Sometimes doing a reformat of the computer may fix the wifi issues, it worked on my old laptop.

A card ceasing to function completely is rare, but a radio going out and affecting performance isn't atypical.

Try changing the channel that your wireless router is broadcasting on.

Re: Please help diagnosing a super slow internet download speed

Try this:
- Shut off everything that's using your Internet
- Reset the router(s)
- Connect ONE laptop - Run Speedtest
- Connect ONE other device - Re-run Speedtest on your laptop
- Connect ANOTHER other device - Re-run Speedtest on your laptop

Repeat the final step until you find the device that's consuming your bandwidth

BTW - the easiest way to do this is to change the login credentials for your Wifi. As soon as you do that, all of your connected devices will lose connectivity. The added benefit of doing that is if you have an unauthorized device leeching off your Wifi (like a neighbor), changing the login creds will kill their access too.
