Recommend me (for daughter) a car radio...

Want to replace stock radio in my daughters little PT Cruiser. I want it to have a USB for connecting and charging her iPhone 5 and Bluetooth for calls as well as Bluetooth audio. Would like to spend $200 or less, installed. But could go higher if needed.

My daughter is off to college as a sophomore. As a freshman I wouldn't let her take her car. But she did well enough grade wise and more importantly has now finished 31 hours. So I'll let her take her car back. But it is like a 2009ish PT Cruiser with a stock radio. I don't want her messing with her phone at all while driving, but I'm not neive enough to think no matter what I say she won't some. So i want to at least minimize it by making it easy for her to listen to music, answer calls, charge her phone, etc.

Any particular suggestions, recommendations, or places to get it?

All the big brands have decent models under $150.

Check Alpine, Kenwood, etc. You can get all of them at Best Buy or some of those stores.

These are the models I'm considering for my 2004 Expedition:

- Alpine CDE-143BT $130
- Kenwood KDC-BT555U $140
- JVC KDR740BT $130

That's the price plus tax, plus installation.

You can check crutchfield for more detailed reviews, but those 3 are good.

I just got a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, but that's $260 before installation. Still, it connects to everything you can think of, except for 8 track and cassette.

Cool. Thanks. Ill hit up BB this weekend. I do also want a detachable faceplate...I think. One purpose of spending as little as possible is, her car will sit on a college campus. So I'd like no one to bash in the window for the radio.

Thieves will break your car window for a cheap radio. My roomate in college had his window bashed in for a sub $100 radio in the circuit city parking lot. The window repair cost more than the damn radio.

Some time ago, my car was broken into. I had a decent stereo (had CD, which was not all that common at the time), I replaced it with a cheap one, broken into again, replaced it with another cheap one and broke a bottle and put the glass behind the stereo .. that got broken into, but at least I saw a nice trail of blood on my seat and going away from a car.

Then I moved.

I'd get something removable (at least the face plate)

I think most of the ones I listed are face detachable.

I think most stereos on that price range include what are considered today standard features: iphone connectitivy, bluetooth, face detachable, etc.

Yea, I hate that all the ones I looked at so far are obvious to be aftermarket.

Yes, they all have removable faceplates, but I'm also afraid of her losing it. Need to see if on her car the glove box locks.
