Google I/O 2013

Thought I would start a thread for Google's event today which starts soon. Lots of rumors for this, so it should be fun.

Latest rumors were no Key Lime Pie/Android 5.0, but a new version of Jellybean at version 4.3

http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/15/a...4-3-confirmed/

A Google Play Games service, like Apple's Gamecenter.

Overhauled Google Maps.

And miscellaneous hardware rumors, like an updated Nexus 4 with LTE, and possibility of a refreshed Nexus 7 or Motorola X Phone. A Nexus 5 seems unlikely.

Google Music All Access. Streaming music for $9.99/month.

Nice, but... I would still use Spotify instead. It works on my non-Google devices, too.

S4 with pure Android. $649.

Re: Google I/O 2013

I can see why the price has to be that high compared to the other Galaxy S4 versions out there, but tough when the Nexus 4 is $300. Nice to have that offer though. The crowd didn't seem too pleased at the price either, the first thing they haven't clapped for all morning.

Re: Google I/O 2013

Eh it's normal price and it's not called "Nexus" so it makes sense, but it seems like a waste. Logical though since they can't undercut the main version.

I'm sticking with Spotify until Google gets apps out to everything.

Re: Google I/O 2013

I like the idea of Hangouts. If enough people would download it, I could ditch paying for text messaging from the carrier. Save me like $20 a month.

A pure Google Experience on an S4? That is very interesting.

Re: Google I/O 2013

So not a single new product (successor to Nexus 4/7/10) was announced? WTF is that?

Re: Google I/O 2013

Also Google Hangouts has no SMS integration. No word on if it will ever be: http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/15/43...messaging-mess

Boooo!

+1. I've been holding off getting one for the last month or so.

Yeah, i'm bummed out by the lack of new hardware news, or Android 4.3.

I have an 8 GB Nexus 7, and although I'm not running out of space I want to upgrade to the new version, with an upgraded hardware.

Re: Google I/O 2013

Google said ahead of time this wasn't going to be about new hardware.

I signed up for the free Music trial, since the renew rate is $7.99 if you sign up before June 30th. A month is a fair amount of time to put it through its paces. I do love Spotify but wasn't paying for premium lately. I never listen to music on my iPad so I'm not worried about an iOS app.

The AOSP S4 is kind of tempting. I love my Note II (and am currently running Paranoid Android 3+, an AOSP ROM, on it), but there are a few times where I feel like it might be a bit too big for its own good. I'd have to switch to T-Mo if I go that route, though.

That's a pretty smart move, though. You get the highest end hardware without compromises (I know a lot of people complain about the lack of removable battery and expandable memory on the Nexus 4).

if you believe recent rumors, Google has abandoned it and left it in the hands of Motorola.

Considering you can get a note 2 on contract for $50,it seems hard for most people to straight up swallow the retail cost. Perhaps a payment plan of some sorts might help.

Re: Google I/O 2013

The AOSP S4 is mainly for developers. Samsung doesn't want you to easily buy one of their phones that doesn't also include all of their bloatware.

Re: Google I/O 2013

It will give ROM makers an easier time to port vanilla Android to the S4 since they will have a fully functioning blueprint.
