Best current digital camera for $200 or less?

In order of importance:
* 1080p HD recording a MUST
* Image quality
* Low light quality
* Battery life

$200 firm. Just want to get the most bang for the buck.

Thanks!

What happened to the Elph 300 from this thread?
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tech-talk/5...get-200-a.html

My Sony HX9V is still kicking ass, but the new HX50V (more than twice your budget, and not out yet) looks great for video.

Maybe you should spend a little more, and not have to upgrade every other year...

Probably not. I came in here to post iPhone 5 as my answer. It at its subsidized price is better than any P&S in the price range unless having some type of optical zoom is a must.

I lost it months ago and gave up trying to find it No idea where it could be whether at home or not. Loved that camera. But by now something better must be out there for the same price. I have an event on June 23 so I need a camera.

I am sure it wouldn't be too hard to find one that beat it in low light performance.

Yeah, maybe there should be a compilation or sticky camera thread. There seems to be a new one started every few weeks.

Nokia Lumia 920...one of the best digital cameras I've used...and it's built into a phone.

Isn't Deb on sprint? I don't think that the 920 is available on sprint.

Just about all of them.

After getting the iPhone 5, I bought more and newer digital cameras.

Course depends on the purpose. Posting drunk, self pics to Facebook, then it won't matter.

Re: Best current digital camera for $200 or less?

I literally got this in the mail this week.

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho.../dp/B00BW6LTG0

I'm not a mega zoom fan, but I got specifically for concerts. Both for me and my son. I'm very surprised by the image quality. No, not as good as a bigger sensor camera, but good.

I haven't looked at typical digital cameras in a while. But you can get a hell of a lot of camera for $200 today.

Do you want pocket size? There have been some nice deals on 4/3 camera lens kits.

I love my Sony C3 with its APS sensor. But it's not in the $200 price range.

If you want low light, typically you want something with a bigger sensor. Though the Canon S100 is still a favorite, though I think $250 is about as low as I've seen.

Tho if you liked the Canon and were use to using it, you might see what the current model is.

Totally disagree. It's really not even close. Sure I've made a few 8x10 prints off my iPhone 5, but they are night and day worse than even my several year old Sony or Canon digital camera.

The iPhone 5 has a nice camera...for a phone. But it is a terrible stand alone camera. Especially in low light or with flash.

As mentioned, the iPhone 5 had me taking more pics which prompted me to see how bad those pics were and get something better.

Low light no flash was important to me, so i got the lx7 a while back, which has pretty decent low light pictures for a compact camera. The zoom isn't great, but I already have 2 super zoom cameras

Isn't the 808 supposed to have a better camera?

Is that the one they had on blow out special for $200 a while back? Was so tempted. But my C3 w/pancake lens is pretty similar size.

I know what you were talking about, that was another camera. I paid around 290 or so for it. It wasn't a really good price or anything, but my zs7 and sx100 really suck at low light no flash pictures. This wasn't really an issue except now I have a baby so don't want to have the flash in the baby's eyes. If you have a c3,no reason to get the lx7.

Btw, Deb, if you are still looking for a phone, here is a comparison of the iPhone 5, Galaxy s4 one and 920.

The one is $30 with trade in for sprint.

If you are in the military or know someone who is, you can get the e-pm1 with 14-42 lens for $178 with 10% code

That's a sweet deal...open up a new world with interchangable lenses. Not as big of a sensor of the Sony (or Samsung), but bigger than most P&S....well reviewed camera as well.

And from the conclusions:

Conclusion

Looking at the samples on the previous pages and above it is clear that not even these high-end smartphones can keep up with decent dedicated compact cameras. Nevertheless there is no doubt that mobile devices are getting better at capturing images with every generation and the phones in this comparison are arguably among the best you can currently get for this purpose.

Best to get a dedicated camera....

Not as good as the Target clearance pricing of $90, but finding a Target store with one in stock would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
