Help my gmail got hacked.

Apparently lst night at 8:30 I sent out about 12 emails to random people on my gmail address book.

It was a link to diet fat blocker or something. Does this means they know my password and had access to look at all the emails I have sent?

I DID change my password. It could have also been my phone that got hacked because one of the emails had my cell phone number.

Please I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this stuff.

Any suggestions or advice on what I should or shouldn't do????

Thanks.

Add two-step authentication immediately:

Re: Help my gmail got hacked.

^THIS.

Also, log into your gmail account from a computer. Scroll all the way down and look for the "details" link in small text. It'll be right below the words "last account activity." Look through the list that comes up and see if any of the "Access Type" or "Location/IP addresses" look unfamiliar.

I recently got a warning from gmail that someone TRIED to get into my account from an unfamiliar location. So I changed my password (and a bunch of other passwords, because I'm paranoid like that).

Do you mean SMTP? That's just an email protocol.

What phone do you have?

In general, once you turn on two-factor authentication, most phone email apps won't be able to access the account, since they don't support it. Gmail has a one-time "mobile" password generator for phones.

Re: Help my gmail got hacked.

Yep, that or you can have an "access code" sent to you by SMS or an automated phone call. Luckily, you only have to do it once per app/device. But that's what keeps it secure.

Re: Help my gmail got hacked.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but something similar happened to me today. I received an email from my own email address that is clearly spam selling something. I didn't click the link, obviously. Is my account compromised? This is a .mac/.me account. Probably about time I cancelled this account and switched to gmail but it's such a hassle updated everything.

Re: Help my gmail got hacked.

Are there any security measures other than 2-factor authentication that can help secure my gmail? It's not an option for me, because I need to check my gmail from work, but can't have my cell phone at my desk and my browser is set to delete cookies regularly.

This is called "self-sending spam" and usually doesn't mean that your account was hacked. It just means that the spammer spoofed your address in the From: field, so that you would be more likely to open his spam to see what is is ("I don't remember sending this to myself. What is it?"). Address spoofing is NOT indicative of your account having been hacked.

This means that the hacker had your account password and were able to use it to send e-mail out via SMTP (Google uses authenticated SMTP only).

It doesn't sound like you were hacked. I have blacked out and done the same thing.

Yeah, for that phone you'll need a one-time password. You only have to enter it once though.

I don't believe so. Best bet is to have a really great password.
