Gaming Laptop Advice

Okay, looking to get a laptop for gaming for my nephew who used to game on a PS3 but after playing games on my PC wants a gaming laptop for himself. I'm pretty literate on PC's but more input couldn't hurt. First off, I know I want an Nvidia, Intel combo. I've played with AMD before but with the 3d option and the Physx software makes games visually better to me. ANyway, just need a laptop thats less than 1000 and 15.6" screen. So any recommendations? I know about Sagebook but I just one that's prebuilt and ready to pick up.

About your only hope within your budget is a low end Sager (like you mentioned already)

http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.p...selected_cat=3

They are not bad at all for the money. Configuration is easy, not too many choices in your price range, don't let that scare you off.

Unless you want to consider a refurb?

or an Acer? (they claim to be changing their reputation, not sure what to think yet)

When you get a larger budget, take a look at Alienware.

Re: Gaming Laptop Advice

Why are you going with a laptop instead of a desktop?

If he's going to be playing primarily at home in the same spot, you could consider getting an external graphics card to use with a laptop. There's this external enclosure that connects via an ExpressCard slot on a laptop:

It typically outputs to an external monitor, although it can use the laptop monitor in certain hardware configurations:

There's also an external graphics card in development that uses the Thunderbolt connector:

Why did they put such a slow drive in that thing?

He wants one to use at College in the fall and take with him home and to friends for LAN parties. And of course an external monitor hook up would be cool too.

Wish there were ones with WIndows 7. That Lenovo looks good but yeah, why would they go with such a slow HD?

If you want a CHEAP gaming laptop, you get a slow drive (got to cut the costs somewhere)

This is a nice deal too

Re: Gaming Laptop Advice

The basic Toshiba Qosmio (Qosmio X870-BT3G23 Laptop) is listed at $1,099.99 for a machine that

List Price with Upgrades: $1,559.99
Component Rebate: -$160.00
Base List Price: $1,399.99
Instant Savings: -$300.00
= $1,099.99

Seems like a nice deal.

Oops! 4KRG beat me to it. Well, shows that we think along the same lines!

Re: Gaming Laptop Advice

I just picked up the Lenovo Y580 for my kids for Christmas. It was the highest reviewed laptop under $1000.
