Is is possible to retrieve deleted data from 3 years ago on a Mac hard drive?

I'm trying to find some deleted footage of a (now) deceased friend's and my Mom's retirement parties (they retired the same year), from 2010. I have not been able to find it in any of my back-up files.

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. In the last 3 years since then, I've had to delete and re-install my operating system twice.

Money isn't an object when it comes to pay for a software program.

Thank you very much for any help offered.

Chances are that you will NOT be able to recover from deleted

It sounds to me like the system was used a lot in the 3 year span

If money is no object, contact Ontrack

http://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/

ship them the drive and see what they can find (very slim chance, but your only hope, retail software will most likely not do what you ask)

If you have exact file names and folder locations, that will help Ontrack find the file if it can be recovered at all.

Yeah, pretty much no. It sounds like you've been using it regularly in that time period, so it's almost certain that all the data has been overwritten since then.

Yeah, it's probably gone for good.

Data is hard enough to recover immediately after deletion. After three years of use, it's going to be unrecoverable. Sorry.

If the data was fragmented to begin with, you may still have a few frames extant of that footage left on the drive. It would require a sector-by-sector (human) analysis of every sector on the drive. Looking specficially for data streams specific to the video-codec used to encode the original footage. And, it would run into the tens of thousands of dollars in manual labor costs, with no guarantee of any recovery at all.

So, in a nutshell, it's probably not going to happen...
