Re: The Apple Thread

thanks tres. i actually tried to do it on my phone and got the same thing..."we'll let you know this time tomorrow when you will be able to reset" or something stupid like that. very frustrating since she doesn't even want to download that costs anything.

Can’t blame them for the level of security iPhones have. I’m sure they’ll help you.

Re: The Apple Thread

I’ve tried texting with them, emailing, all the links I could find. It should not be this hard for an Apple ID password. I did this yesterday or day before with her she forwarded me the email that did nothing. I can’t even find a customer service #. And I’m certainly not paying if they charge.

Re: The Apple Thread

Go to an Apple store, make a genius bar appointment, take the phone with you and explain what the issue is. It’s better than expecting answers here. Being able to see someone physically who works for Apple is better than twiddling in frustration.

Unless you don’t live near one.

Re: The Apple Thread

If she just wants to download things that are free, why not just set up a new one?

Otherwise:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487

but it'll probably get the same issue and they'll tell you to wait until tomorrow, so maybe... wait until tomorrow?

Re: The Apple Thread

Like I said, we did already and got email yesterday that she forwarded me and it did nothing. Tomorrow, same thing. And closest Genius Bar is over an hour for her. She would never do.

You said you got told several times to wait for a specific time on 6/11, tomorrow. I have no idea why that is but why not follow those instructions? Like I said, if she wants to download something that's free set up another id on her phone. Obviously she doesn't need the id functionality if she doesn't even remember the password, at least not in the short term?

I mean there is a valid reason to make you jump through hoops if you don't know your password and you didn't set up alternate means of verification before.

That sounds like an account lockout, likely due to entering the wrong password too many times. I think Apple locks out the account for progressively longer times. There can also be limits on the number of times one requests a password reset in a time frame, so it's asking you to wait until a certain amount of time after the last password reset attempt before you can do another.

Ugh. Gotcha. She’s pissed and that gets me frustrated, but we’ll see. Thanks Jay.
