Re: The Apple Thread

When I ordered it for my iPad 3 over the phone, I immediately received an email about it and then received a letter about it in the mail within a week.

I think a lot of companies wouldn't have even acknowledged they showed the order in their system.

Well I hope some of you with AAPL sold when it was $700.

Re: The Apple Thread

Rumors of an iPad Mini Retina are already out. The rumor is that AU Optronics is working on it. That was fast.

Re: The Apple Thread

What's the usual Apple Black Friday deal? Thinking about getting an iPad mini this friday if there's something like 10% off.

Re: The Apple Thread

I doubt that you would see that kind of deal on a Mini. That's more likely on an iPad 2 (at least in the form in gift certificates). I think the best you can hope for is discount on accessories that might work on the Mini also.

Re: The Apple Thread

Around 10% off is pretty common for Apple products on Black Friday, and I see no reason that the Mini would be excluded.

Re: The Apple Thread

In past years, they discount some, but not all of the models, and definitely not the newer ones.

Re: The Apple Thread

Best deals are usually discount/free iTunes cards with purchase of apple products.

And then bought again before yesterday's single day 7.2%, 38 point increase?

Crystal balls are nice, but AAPL continues to be gloriously undervalued compared to say Amazon, with its absurd P/E ratio and loss leader products leading to overall losses (see their last quarter). Or companies like HP, who just took $8.8 BILLION charge for a company they bought *last year*. Or Microsoft, who's Windows 8 is failing to meet internal sales expectations (according to Paul Thurrott and others). Or Dell, who's earnings are collapsing and are singularly incapable of entering th mobile computing market.

Re: The Apple Thread

So I take it you sold @ $700 and bought some more @ $510?

Note: You can only brag about your smarts if you actually fucking sold and bought at the right time. Considering your ludricrously magnanimous posts, I'll assume you haven't.

I don't speculate, I only have long term investments.

If my previous post was unclear, I'm saying that AAPL will go back above $700, so selling at $700 isn't such a smart move unless you get back in on time. Thus the crystal ball comment. "Ludicrously magnanimous"? I'll take it.

Most people are very confident that AAPL will go back up above $700, I don't think anyone is arguing that fact. It's just sort of trivial if you didn't get out when it was $700 and re-bought when it was $500 to enjoy the ride, or at least stock up on a few more shares. Unless you're just playing the straight up long with them, in which case yes, your funds will recover.

Are you sure you used the right link? That one is for 2011.

Thanks for pointing that out. I got directed to that link from another news site (I don't remember which now), so either it's old, or they mistyped the year in the header. I have deleted my post to avoid confusion.

Based on Shazam's post, it would certainly appear that he is arguing (against) that fact.

Dell is a mess right now.

I've noticed that they've moved away from being a custom computer company and now just another computer company selling at Best Buy and Wal-Mart. I was looking at their website recently, and there's very little customization available for their systems outside of adding on Bose speaker systems or power strips. What was cool about Dell is that you could have them customize a system to your needs, so you could swap out a slower CPU for a bigger hard drive. Now, if you want a 1TB HD, you have to get the i7 model.

And now, as people are moving toward phones and tablets, they're kind of fucked. They're like HP without the TouchPad.

But you have to give them some credit for the streak and aero.

What is this "streak" and "aero" you speak of?

You are looking at only a small portion of what Dell is today. You are thinking they are the same company as 10 years ago.

Dell is an acquisition machine.
Quest, Wyse, SonicWall, Force10, Equilogic, Clerity Solutions, Make Technologies and the list goes ON and ON...

Re: The Apple Thread

Here is the Black Friday list at Apple.

And discounts on Apple stuff at other big stores.

No sale on the iPad Mini.

I decided to go with a Google Nexus 10. No discount, but I am happy

Re: The Apple Thread

Boo, no sale on the iPad mini. Maybe that's a good thing. I may just wait for the Retina version - you know it's coming.

Fell in love with the Retina 13" Macbook Pro but somehow managed to walk out without buying it. The Apple store was bonkers. I'm not claustrophobic at all, but even I couldn't wait to get out of the store.

Re: The Apple Thread

^ you can download it from apple.com if you don't want to wait.

My first impression: It's prettier... but otherwise just the same. And PING is gone!!! ZOMG!

A minor gripe, but I don't like how it lays out tracks in three columns when I have iTunes taking up the whole screen. ie:

^ I have it now - the server was busy for about 1 hour. I haven't had time to play with it a lot, but I like the layout - cleaner and as you said, prettier...
