whats the truth on Facebook Timeline and privacy?

people keep posting to 'make private' their comments by unsubscribing. Is this a real thing or just paranoia? Will unwanted people be able to read a private profile without changing all your friends settings and vice versa?
I'm still relatively new to FB..

As long as your profile isn't set to Public you're fine.

Timeline is just a shitty new interface.

You also have to make sure your statuses are set to friends only.

Re: whats the truth on Facebook Timeline and privacy?

I have a related question. Can others share or repost what you post to your timeline irregardless of your privacy settings?

For example:
If I create a friends or family list and choose to post/share a photo only to that list, can someone who is on that list then turnaround and share it back out?

I'm guessing that the person could bypass the privacy settings by downloading the photo and then posting it from their account directly since FB wouldn't know the privacy settings for the picture at that point. What about text posts or status updates?

Thanks

This does nothing, it only hides it from YOUR feed. They need to do the privacy setting themselves. Timeline is the same as the original wall, just laid out differently.

First thing about social networks: You are the product they are selling. So your data is "private".

You have to assume that everything you post may become public one way or the other.

My beginning and end for Facebook privacy is simple: if you are that concerned about your privacy, you shouldn't use Facebook. Simple!
