How to make the complete switch from Outlook?

Hi All,

I got a MacbookAir a couple months back and love it and enjoy the MacOS. There is one niggle which I'm not completely satisfied yet and that's migrating into the Mac world of how to manage personal information management (Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Tasks)

In windows I used Outlook and synced via iTunes which worked just fine with my iPhone.

In MacOS, initially tried installing Outlook for Mac but for the life of me could not get the sync to work for the iPhone. After searching various knowledge bases i found that there is a major bug and it won't work at all... hopefully this will get sorted in the next version of Outlook for Mac.

So I then tried using iCal and Address book but there were some limitations:

- Did not know where or how to sync Tasks - now in iOS5 there is a Reminders app but where does that sync with the desktop?

- Also Notes syncs with Mail but I don't use mail, can this sync with another application?

- Is there a way to password protect opening up iCal and Address book (as well as the desktop equivs for Notes and Reminders)?

- Is there one application that puts all of these together (like outlook for windows) but also syncs seamlessly with the iphone?

Can't believe it's this hard but looking for options here please thank you in advance!

Setup iCloud on all your devices (Mac, iPhone, Windows):

http://www.apple.com/icloud/get-started/

Once you've done that then any change you make on any device will automatically and immediately be sync'd to all your other devices. You'll also be able to view and change your data through any web browser on www.icloud.com

Re: How to make the complete switch from Outlook?

thanks I'll take a look at iCloud - the next question is, what would the tasks and notes sync with on the back from iCloud?

iphone calendar <-> iCloud <-> Mac OS Desktop iCal
iphone contacts <-> iCloud <-> Mac OS Desktop Address Book
iphone tasks <-> iCloud <-> Mac OS Desktop ?
iPhone reminders <-> iCoud <-> Mac OS Desktop ?

Finally, how would i be able to password protect the launch of any of the Mac OS apps? (I know I can have a password for the session when logging in or from a screen saver but I want to be able to hand my laptop to someone then not allowing them to launch these apps. Is this possible?

Don't have an iPhone, but there are Reminders in iCal. Look Under the File and View menus. Reminders can also be checked so they may also be dealt with as a task list.

These would both be iCal too.

That's not an easy one to answer. Some suggestions here might work:

If you're talking about loaning your laptop for a few days or something, then you might want to just create a Guest account.

Thanks Todd B - I can see the reminders for iCal but can't seem to find where the task list is?
