Help me find a new video card (and power supply?)

My last computer finally started to give up its ghost this past month, and there was a very good deal on a Dell through Fatwallet, so I jumped on it.

This is the computer:
Dell XPS Studio 9100

Here are the relevant specs of the computer as shipped:

Processor: Intel Core i7-960 processor (8 MB L2 cache 3.20 Ghz)
PCIe x16 (Graphics): 1 slot
Power 525 W
6 GB DDR3 SDRAM
Nvidia GeForce G405

I'd really like to be able to play Skyrim and a few other games (mostly the Bethesda back catalog). I'm assuming the processor and RAM are up to snuff.

From what I've read, that GeForce G405 is just a step above integrated video, so I'm assuming it won't be able to cut it. The problem is, I have no idea what to replace it with. I don't need top of the line... I barely have time for gaming. I just want the Bethesda games to run pretty.

The second problem is the power supply. From what I've read, Dell understates their power supplies a little, but I'm not sure how much. I've checked, and this power supply can be replaced (Dell used to have some proprietary issues with their power supplies, but apparently no longer). If that power supply will be insufficient for my new card, what should I replace it with? Is Corsair still a good brand?

Best Buy has this card ( XFX ATI Radeon HD 6770 1GB DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 )for sale for $129.99. Its specs say it only takes a 500 watt power supply?

Would that work for me?

You should be fine with that card. I had a GT 460 that called for a 500w and my PSU was a 480w and it still ran. Just make sure you have enough space to fit the card in your case. Have fun gaming!

Probably fine with the stock psu, you need to check the power on the 12v rails to be sure.

The g405 is pretty crappy, not a gaming card by any means.

If Dell underrates their psu, then you'd be safer, say they say it's 500W when it's really 550W. it's a problem if they overate it, say they claim it's 500W when it's 450W.

Corsair is a good brand, stay away from the cx line though.

Jesus that's getting old.

GTX 460 or 560 would be a good bet, although I'm partial to Nvidia over ATI.

Picked up the ATI card and installed it with no issues. I've been playing Skyrim for the last few hours. Jesus, that's a good game.

You can close this thread. Thanks for the help, all.
