picked up a "kindle keyboard with 3g" for 85 bucks from target friday afternoon. It has the adds but they're not a problem. my previous kindle had custom screensavers my wife had put on as a joke. At least now i dont have to worry about co-workers seeing "edward and bella" or "legolas" from the movie on my kindle if i leave it out.

anyone with an ereader should check out the free program, Calibre. its great for converting ebook formats and organizing your library

I am getting my first Kindle today, I need to decide between the basic and the touch. They both seem to have their high and low points.

I just wish any of my local targets still had the.keyboard version in stock.

FWIW, many of the reviews I've read about the touch are that it's super finicky and will often respond to the lightest of touches.

I have been leaning toward the basic. But i am not sure if I would use the xray feature.

Re: Amazon's Kindle announcements today

I got a Kindle Touch for Christmas and I got it specifically for grad school. I annotate my textbooks a lot and being able to highlight and add footnotes with a quick swipe and the pop-up keyboard is amazing. I can type a lot faster on the pop-up keyboard than using the basic to toggle through letters. Not all of my textbooks for the upcoming semester have X-ray enabled but those that will are going to be a tremendous boon.

Knowing how I want to use my Kindle helped me choose which one is right for me.
