i-pod question

I have had my i-pod music on my desktop, but am now going to get a labtop.
Can I plug my i-pod into my labtop and be able to add and change my music around?

Re: i-pod question

I think so if you go to iTunes anad sign in and authorize your new laptop.

You might be interested to know that iTunes now lets people re-download all their purchased music, not the cd rips or Amazon mp3s. Go to iTunes > iTunes Store > click Purchased on the right-side menu.

No. You need to copy the music from the desktop computer to the new laptop by USB drive, CD or over a network. You can not use the ipod to do this unless you use third party (non -iTunes) software.

Re: i-pod question

if you google around i think lifehacker has the exact instructions for what to copy to a new computer to keep playlists, playcounts and other itunes info without backing up and restoring your library. it's only 2 files that hold these.

Re: i-pod question

Lopez,

The forum at this link has more information than you will ever need about everything ITUNES. Search for ILOUNGE in Google (I do not have enough posts to post a link). Go to the ILOUNGE forums and click on the ITUNES area.

The first "Sticky" thread at that link is entitled "How to relocate your itunes library". Read that thread. It is very thorough.

So the guy who uses no capitalization or punctuation of any kind is being anal about it? The proper style is iPod, so your suggestion is wrong.

Re: i-pod question

When you connect your IPod to your Laptop make sure you have show hidden files selected under Folder Options. Then you can copy anything on your IPod to your laptop, from the hidden folders where your music is kept, but you might have to rename everything.

I haven't done it in a while but i'm pretty sure all the files from your IPod, that are in the hidden folder, are titled with a series of letters and then the extension.

Also make sure you have ITunes set to manual sync or else you could lose everything on your IPod when you connect it to your new laptop.

Re: i-pod question

Thank you all for your help.
But before I had read all your suggestions I had bought this cable from Wal-mart that you can transfer from desktop to laptop.
This will work,right?
