I love this Amazon Appstore - but only for the free apps. Hopefully they don't realize that that's all people are going to use it for.

Re: The Amazon App Deal Thread (Android).

If you purchase an app or even get a free app from Amazon will it always remember that you paid or downloaded it? With the regular Android Market when I install a fresh OS I can still go back and get my apps that I've previously paid for and it remembers things I've downloaded in the past.

I think you'll have to get them through the Amazon store, but you'll still have them available to redownload.

i would assume so. you get emails as confirmation of your order of the freebie apps, so i'd say you'll be able to download.

i like that when i woke up this morning i had a notification to update the amazon app store. it would seem that integration is an important aspect to amazon.

From what I can tell, yes. You can add additional devices to your App Store, so switching between devices, or ROMS, should work:

I think it has things to offer that the regular marketplace doesn't. For one, there's a filter (Amazon claims to test every app). Also, if you have Amazon credit for whatever reason you can use it here. You can also bookmark apps you're interested in. I also find the download/install process a lot smoother and less buggy.

Of course, the real raison d'etat for this app is no doubt an upcoming Kindle Color.

Yea, there are definitely some perks to it - I just don't see myself buying anything through it, personally.

What are people's thoughts regarding this compared to Soundhound? I have the latter (it's free) and like it. I don't think I need two apps that do the same thing, even if both can be stored on the SD card. (Even if you move an app there, part of it remains in the internal storage and my Optimus is running out of room.)

You can always just snag the app but not install it immediately.

This version of Shazam is ad free, while the free version of Soundhound has ads (you have to upgrade to SoundHound ∞ to not have ads).

Note that you can "buy" these free apps without loading them to your phone. I've been getting them via the Amazon website, and have only loaded 3 out of the 5 free apps onto my phone so far.

The pay versions of Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons are probably selling well, due to Google's Android Market not having those versions available. It's an interesting disparity; I wonder if it's because Amazon's DRM is better or something.

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought about doing that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ads really don't bother me all that much. I think the only time I'd opt for the paid version of an app is if it added some functionality that I'd actually use.

I think the free version of Shazam also has a limit of tags while the full version doesn't.

Other than being out of space, there's no reason not to have both. The benefit is that because they work differently and use different datasets, there's a chance one will identify a song when the other fails.

From the app description For Shazam:
http://www.amazon.com/Shazam-Enterta...dp/B004MC0FO8/
This free version of Shazam contains in-app advertisements and includes five tags a month. For unlimited tagging and exclusive features, try Shazam Encore.
https://market.android.com/details?i...shazam.android
This free app gives you 5 tags each month to identify music anywhere

Soundhound has unlimited tagging in the free version.

That's pretty much how both Apple App Store and Android Marketplace work, so it's not surprising that Amazon's App Store would work the same way.

i didn't think so, but that's just me. it's still a typing program where you push buttons at it's heart. i like the swiping my finger, so that's why i picked swype.
