Does this "Airplay" only work on the 2nd gen AppleTV?

Nice. I'll dl this later tonight. I'm glad they're giving iPhone 4 users the free Find My Phone feature.

Yeah, my 3G is staying on 3.1.3. No AirPrint, VoiceOver, AirPlay, or Find My Phone support, in addition to the other 4.x enhancements it already doesn't support. But, hey, at least it would run slower.

Wait...I was reading...does printing not work with any network printer??? It has to be AirPrint compatible?

Actually, reports are that iOS 4.2 speeds up the 3G significantly more than 4.1 did. Take that with a grain of salt, but I've seen video that shows it is indeed almost back to 3.1.3 speeds.

My wife's old 3G works just fine on 4.1. Going to put 4.2 on it soon

Holy crap. I can stream my music directly from my phone to my stereo through the wifi and Airport express. No more having to use iTunes on the PC to stream. Awesome.

Total suck! Looks like they changed the print feature AFTER the announcement...AGHHH.....I find myself grabbing my phone instead of laptop for quick lookup, read email, etc. Printing from there would be a lot easier.

I did start a thread about getting cheaper ink for my Epson. Maybe I'll switch back to HP since they have more generic ink options anyway....agghh...maybe not...disappointing.

AirPrint

Back when Apple first previewed iOS 4.2, the company announced AirPrint, a feature that would finally let iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users print over a wireless network. A couple weeks later, the company announced details of AirPrint, explaining that the feature would let you print directly from iOS apps to both Hewlett-Packard printers that include the new ePrint feature, as well as to printers connected to, and shared by, a Mac or Windows PC. Unfortunately, full AirPrint functionality is missing from iOS 4.2. You'll still be able to print to HP ePrint printers, but--at least for now--you can't print to a printer shared by your computer. (Apple's official position is simply that with iOS 4.2, you "can print to directly to AirPrint compatible printers without the need to install drivers or download software.")

Apple hasn't officially canceled this feature, however, so we're holding out hope that it simply wasn't ready--and that we'll see it in a future update to iOS 4

An honest question: if you were to buy an iPhone 4 and eBay the iPhone 3G, wouldn't you end up spending a negligible amount out of pocket? And if so, why not do it, instead of complaining?

I have downgraded to 3.1.3 twice now, from both 4.0 and 4.1, after suffering with them for about two weeks each. If I am going to risk a third time, it will be for something more compelling than additional fonts in Notes and a lame Voice Memos icon.

I read on Macrumors that there is already desktop software out that enables AirPrint for any printer on your Mac's network. You may want to look into that. Me -- do only thing I ever print is the occasional concert ticket, thus I don't care.

I will do it once I am eligible to do it. In the meantime, if Apple is going to release iOS 4.x for my current model, I don't think it is too much to ask for iOS 4.x to actually, you know, work on my current model.

Why aren't you eligible? At&t bumped up pretty much everyone with an iPhone when the 4 came out. I signed a new contract July of last year and was still able to get the full discounted price.

I'm not eligible either. I got my 3GS last November and I'm not eligible until May.

I'm just going my what my online eligibility status says. I haven't actually called them to press the issue since I'm not in any rush to upgrade the hardware (or the software ).

I would try. 3G's are still pulling in about $200 on ebay. It's worth taking advantage of it while you can. And, coming from someone who also jumped from a 3G to a 4, the difference is night and day. Every aspect of the phone is magnitudes better on the 4.

I just upgraded my 3G to the latest software version. A huge improvement over 4.0.1! It was actually painful before and now seems as snappy as version 3 did. Pretty pumped it is back to running normal (which is sad).

Anything for PC?

This printer doesn't look to bad....

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Officejet-6.../dp/B003ZUXXP6

Just need to wait for Office Depot to do one of their $50 off instant rebate and $50 trade in...

My Epson has worked great (except for the ink price). But not married to it.

Same thing happened to me except it was all still there.
I just basically synced again, with a pc that I don't sync the music with, and it reappeared.

It's a glitch
