Download and upload speeds

Once again just a dumb question, used one of those testing sites to see and here is what came up, what should be done to increase either speed.

how good is an upload of 243 kb a second and a download of 1743 kb?

13.87Mbps down & .93MBps up through mediacom cable, using the 12mb package.. could upgrade to 20, but meh.

Were they using it as you were running the test? If so then yes it will effect the test results. If not then no it won't matter.

My mom is on verizon fios. Her speeds are 40Mbps down and 25MBps up. Her upload is literally 50x faster than my upload on TW and she never uses that bandwidth.

Damn, I am drooling with some of the posted speeds. Verizon is really fucking me in the ass with the DSL.

I was on the 25/5 residential plan for $60/mo until they threatened to boot me off for going over the quota. Switching to the business plan, there was a $100 installation fee and 1yr contract. I'm actually only contracted for the 25/5 rate, but I guess they have the turbo boost thing going so it bursts to 50/10 for transfers smaller than several megabytes.

I'd rather be paying $60/mo, but $100/mo for no transfer quota seems reasonable.

My T1 connection at work

It's actually quite fast, but it's going thru a proxy or two, so I think tests like this don't really reflect it's speed well. Browsing is much faster here than anywhere else I've ever browsed.

Re: Download and upload speeds

This is Comcast with the regular 42 dollar internet. I'm pretty pleased with it but wow some of you guys have amazing speeds. I wonder though if your internet is really that much faster. I have to think there's bottlenecks on some of the servers you access for websites so it might not always be as super fast as it looks according to the test results. Then again that could easily be true for me too.

Re: Download and upload speeds

The cheapest dsl package they have, I think it's grandfathered in at less than $20/mo. I'm starting to stream more stuff and this really sucks, but I don't want to spend more on DSL.
