Are they all compliant with each other? I mean, is there a standard? I want to just buy one and save some money, but don't want to get one then find out when I move that it won't work on whatever connection I happen to get there. I'm on roadrunner right now, and I know they use the Toshiba PCX1000 (what I have), and a 3Comm. Thanks.

cable company's use something on the modem called the MACID. They have to have that # on their side in order to the cable modem working. Some companys allow you to buy your own and in exchange, you get a lower rate.
