I think this is probably a registry problem, but here goes:

Anytime I open up an Excel file, I get this error that the file I'm trying to open already has been opened, click okay to move on with my life. But the file opens up and every from there is hunky-dory. I'm just annoyed at this damn error everytime I open up an Excel file.

Do you have any temp files left in your Excel directory? Or maybe somewhere else like temp directory? Maybe Excel didn't remove its backup file and it thinks a file is still open. Did you abort out of Excel before this started happening?

This has been going on for over 6 months (tells you how much I really use Excel at home) and I just finally decide to beg for help.

No other guesses?

Here's the actual error message:

"A document with the name "xxx.xls" is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different folders. To open the second document, either close the document that's currently open, or rename one of the documents."

I press "Ok" and that's that.
