Do you think my broadband internet speed is sufficient?

Hey, looking for some opinions here. We have AT&T dry loop DSL, mid-range package, speeds up to 3 Mbps. We usually hit right under that according to Speakeasy's speed test. Now here is what we have using this service:

Desktop with Outlook 2007 connected constantly (I work remotely) and AIM and Windows Live Messenger connected 8-5 weekdays

Laptop connected almost always running Outlook, IM clients and a FFXI, an MMORPG

Vonage phone system, I have reports of people saying I cut out or click sometimes -- we are looking to change to Skype with a standalone phone, just like my Vonage phone

iPhone running Skype and Beejive for IMs, browsing, email, facebook

iTouch for browsing, email, facebook and Beejive if my iPhone is dead

PS3 streaming Netflix

Wii sometimes is on

__________

So that's the load. If 6 Mbps really isn't necessary, then I don't want to upgrade (and I'm feeling it is necessary, sometimes my game lags, husband gripes that his browsing is slow at the desktop, then the occasional phone complaints listed above).

Thoughts?

The only things that use up substantial bandwidth there are Vonage and Netflix. Not sure how much FF11 uses but I don't think it's too bad.

You need a router that supports Quality of Service (basically gives priority to Vonage) to ensure you have stable call quality. You don't have a ton of bandwidth to work with, but it shouldn't be dropping as much as you say.

I would avoid doing anything else while using Netflix.

Netflix recommends 5mb for streaming HD content, if that's important.
