best netbook for $350mor less?

my girlfriend is looking to buy a netbook. i havent really kept up on them so i need to do some research. any opinions on what the best netbooks are for under $350. the only requirement is a 6 cell battery.

oops just noticed the title typo. it should be $350 or less...incase you cant figure that out.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+I...book&cp=1&lp=1 perhaps? I personally don't like Windows 7 Starter but the rest is solid.

Plus the Dell netbooks seem to be the most compatible with Hackintosh'ing, if you so choose to go that route.

Re: best netbook for $350mor less?

that dell was my first choice. i saw this one too http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+...ustomerreviews
ive always stayed away from gateway but i see that the older model gets great reviews. it has a 250 gb hard drive and i think a better screen than the dell. plus its $20 cheaper (not a deal maker or breaker though).
i highly doubt we will do the hackintosh thing.

or maybe acer i read that the gateway above is a rebranded version of acer. it only has a 160 hard drive but it looks like everything else is the same. http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...O532h-2588-10/

I got an Acer Aspire like that for Christmas and so far I'm happy with it. Mine only has a 3 cell battery though, but I'm pretty sure you can get them with a 6 cell too.

Check out the Asus netbooks...they consistently get great reviews.

I have an older 8.9" Asus and love the thing. I use it almost daily. Best $200 I have ever spent. The Seashell Asus models are really nice and definitely in that price range.

Re: best netbook for $350mor less?

Been using a Lenovo for a little over a year now and it has been excellent.
Paid $350/- at the time for a 10. 1 incher and 160GB HD with WIN XP. Not a single problem so far and seems pretty breezy for a net book.
At that time all i could find was either Lenovo or Asus and the Lenovo felt much more solid.

Re: best netbook for $350mor less?

I really like my Asus 1005HA (purchased last summer for a trip to England/Scotland). The 1005HA is one of the Asus "seashell" models referred to by darkside. Looks like it's $340 at Newegg right now (I haven't priced it at other places). I have to say I've been very impressed with its performance. I can actually get pretty close to the quoted 10.5 hours of battery life. The maximum vertical resolution is a little small (at 1024 x 600), but it's something I can live with. I still use Windows XP on it.

Re: best netbook for $350mor less?

well she got a $60 gift card from amazon so we are thinking about this one. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...KT8F1&v=glance

Gateway EC1433U 11.6-Inch Cherry Red Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)
* 1.3GHz Intel Celeron 743 Processor
* 2048MB DDR2 667MHz Memory
* 250GB SATA Hard Drive, 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N Wifi
* 11.6" HD Widescreen LED-backlit Display, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
* Windows 7 Home Premium, Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life
* 2gd ram

anyone see anything else that looks better? how is that processor?

Re: best netbook for $350mor less?

The Celeron 743 is about 33% faster than most Atom processors (the dual-core and recently released D-series being the exception, but the D-series is for Desktops), so good pick on that. The fact it has a 11.6" LED which is nice and the 4500MHD kicks ass for a netbook -- You can actually use this thing as a HTPC and play HD on it if you so wish (HDMI-out + 4500mHD)

Excellent choice overall If you want to squeeze a few extra hours out of the netbook go with the Asus, if you want the extra performance - this one will do you well.

The Celeron 743 is your best bet for a 11.6" without moving up to the Intel SU4100.
