Positioning an external hard drive on a non-flat surface while in use?

I recently bought a Western Digital My Passport Elite 500GB portable external hard drive. There is no supplied cradle with the unit, but I have an extra cradle (designed for MP3 players) from my CyberAcoustics 2.1 computer speaker system that I was thinking of using.

The thing is, resting the external hard drive on this cradle would mean not positioning it completely (horizontally) flat. It would be at an angle of maybe 25 degrees.

I'm not entirely sure, but is it safe to position an external hard drive at an angle while the drive is spinning/in use? I'm not sure if this would eventually damage the internals of the drive.
