Nvidia battle! aka video card advice.

I'm looking to buy a new Nvidia card to upgrade from my 8500 GT currently in use. After some looking and decision making I've narrowed down my choices to these cards:

BFG 9800 GT

or

Galaxy GT 220

Or even this:

PNY GT 220

The reason I am sticking with BB is that I, of course, have giftcards there.

The only major issue I might have is that I want to use this card in both 7 and Linux. I know the GT's are newer cards, but are they better than the 9800?

The 220's are pretty much worthless if your going to be doing any gaming. So out of those 3 go with 9800 GT. Any particular reason you're limiting your options to nVidia? Because in the same price range as the 9800, the 4850 utterly destroys it in gaming performance. The 4770 is also faster, but not by as large a margin.

I agree with Thrush.

Do a bing shopping search for XFX 4850. BB has it for $140 and if you go through Bing you'll get 5% cashback.

That price isn't actually that bad either because the card has become harder to find online and prices have been going up. It's nowhere near as bad as the PNY 220, which you can get for half BB's price at Newegg.

The GTS 250 is about equivalent to the 4850. If you weren't limited to BB it would probably be the way to go because it would be $20-30 cheaper.

I'm dual booting, Linux is my main OS, & Nvidia (currently) has better Linux support than ATI.

It isn't that I need a card for hardcore gaming (no 60 fps in "Crysis" needed), but if I'm gonna blow my giftcards on something, I wouldn't mind having a card that could do a decent job if I needed it to.

They've gotten allot better in Linux support.
