What's wrong with my computer?

I can't figure out what's wrong with my computer. When I open up Internet Explorer and try to type in a web address and hit enter nothing happens except that the web address becomes highlighted in blue. The only way I can get to a website is to Google it first then click on the link.

The same thing happens when a open up Word, Paint, etc. I try to open up a file; click "file" then "open" and when I click on the "down arrow" icon it just hilights whatever menu it was on in blue and freezes up. Sometimes it will say cannot acces file because progam is already open, then gives me 2 choices " switch" and "retry"; but neither works. Sometimes when I try and open something or go to the control panel, the flashlight icon will appear to be searching for the program or file for a few seconds.

I've run a virus scan and it doesn't find anything wrong. What am I missing?

It almost sounds like you have a stuck key.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

Sounds like a keyboard problem, as mentioned above. I'd also recommend switching to Opera from IE, but that's just for performance, it won't fix you're problem.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

since keyboard has already been covered.. Ill throw a more obscure suggestion
might have turned on some hot/macro keys and didnt realize it

try hitting CTRL+ALT at the same time and see if it makes any difference.. (long shot)

Possibly Sticky Keys are on.

Press left SHIFT key 5 times in a row, and choose Cancel on the pop-up that comes up.
