Hey All,

I was wondering if there were any easy solutions with my problems. First off i have a POS 48x Acer cd-rom drive that seems to be accessing really slow as of late...i think this has something to do with my computer being bogged down because i can't defrag. Everytime i go to defrag it stops. I have tried shutting down every program in the task manager, but still doesn't work. Is there any software out there that i can defrag with? Also, in Other Bargains there are some decent deals on CD-ROM's, but they havne't been rated well. Any suggestions?

ps. I am running WIN 98, second edition i think, had to reinstall a few months ago from a friend's copy. Also an Imation 8x external SCSI, Athlon 750, 128megs DRAM.

What other programs do you have running at the same time that don't need to be running?

For example, Windows Task Scheduler or ICQ?

If you have a screensaver running while defraggin, it will try to restart the defrag when the screensaver comes on.
