I was just wondering. I try to defrag about every ten days. Is this enough??? ...Too often???

I really don't think there's a right or wrong answer, I'm just seeing how often other people de-frag.

I do it once a week, but not for any particular reason. I just do it.

depends on how much you use your PC. Me, maybe once a month, but I am not really anal about the defrag. I use NTFS and it is a little more tolerant to fragged files than FAT.

I think I've defragged twice in the two years I've had my PC

For the fastest defraggin' try a program called "Vopt" over at http://www.vopt.com/. you'll be done defraggin in 5-10 minutes. Maybe even less after the initial defrag.

Wow thanks, it usually takes me 2-3 hours to defrag.

Edit: Never mind, it costs way too damn much! Thanks anyways!

That would depend on how much your hard drive is fragmented. If it's below 5% then it's not worth it. I'd say that once a month is more then enough for a 'normal' user.

I do a lot of video editing which writes and deletes a few gigs at a time, so I defrag every couple weeks.

Just run the analysis part of the defrag program. If it shows a lot of fragmentation, run the defrag.

I do mine about once a week, but use the one in Norton Utilities (it's a bit more efficient than the one provided with Windows as it organizes files by how much or how little they're accessed).

I use the underwear rule. Every time I get around to changing my underwear, I defrag.
