Help with soundcard upgrade

I don't know much about building computers. I know this is the card I currently have and it is clearly outdated and doesn't have driver support for 7. I'm not sure what is needed to know if it will be compatible. My motherboard is an Asus P4P800 SE if that matters. Can someone please recommend me a new card for a reasonable price that will be compatible with my computer and will have good driver support? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.

What is the card you have now?

Or are you using your motherboard's on board audio?

Re: Help with soundcard upgrade

My Creative Labs Audigy 2 sound card is working fine with Windows 7, you can get a Sound Blaster X-Fi from Newegg for $50 that should work just fine. Just make sure you get a PCI card (because you don't have any PCI-e slots)

It's quite possible that Windows 7 will have the proper drivers and the sound will work, might be worth a try before you spend the money.

Thanks. Maybe I'll go for that. The main problem with my card now is not that the sound won't work, it just won't play 5.1. Only 3 of my 5 speakers are making sound and when I go to settings it doesn't recognize that I have surround sound

I would go Creative Labs as well.

I like those cards.
