MP3 player suggestion?

My aunt wants me to get her an mp3 player for christmas. My funds are kinda limited, so I wanted to see if someone can recommend something affordable.

Im not looking to spend more than $40-50. Looking for atleast a 4GB model (expanded memory slot, optional). Needs to come w/ wall charger bc my aunt doesnt have a computer.

Ive been looking on amazon and have came across the iriver lpayer
http://www.amazon.com/iriver-Lplayer...9776400&sr=1-9

a Coby model
http://www.amazon.com/Coby-Flash-Pla...9777006&sr=1-4

and this sandisk sansa connect
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-...777785&sr=1-33

Im thinking the sandisk, but know nothing about that seller. And the feedback is kinda mixed.

So can anyone help me out?

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

Sandisk Sansa Clip or Clip +

Best bang for the buck for the non-ipod crowd.

Check fatwallet hot deals forum, there is almost always a hot deal on on the older Clip

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

I got a Sansa Clip a few months back. Nice and small and dig it.

Although it's weird that your aunt wants a player and doesn't even have a computer.

Sandisk Sansa is a solid player (think a 4gb model sells for 45 dollars or so on Amazon), I had the 8gb model before upgrading to the Ipod Touch 2nd gen

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

This is the player I've got.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-...9784267&sr=1-4

I don't use it a lot but I really like it. It was easy to load using drag-and-drop and it has good battery life.

Mine didn't but I'd imagine you could find one fairly cheap.

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

The clip is charged via USB chord. You can pick up usb wall adaptors for about $4-$5 shipped on Amazon. Most rechargable mp3 players are charged via USB these days.

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

The Sansa Clip Plus (the current generation) has a micro-SD slot. The 2GB version runs around $40 though buy.com has the 4GB version for $46 (new) with free shipping.

Buy.com also has the original Sansa Clip, 1GB, for $15 shipped (refurbished). They also have an 8GB version for $37 (also a refurb).

When browsing around, you can tell the difference between the two by the shape of the control pad. First generation had a round control pad, second generation has a square control pad. There are a few other minor differences but the big change was the addition of the micro-SD card slot. If that isn't a big deal then get the first generation.

If you think she would want to look at pictures or videos, look at the Sansa Fuze or go with an iPod Nano. The problem with the fuze is you can't use iTunes to put videos onto it, which is why it is my opinion that the Nano or iPod Touch are better for things like TV shows. Besides the Sansa Clip / Fuze, we also have a Nano (last year's generation) as well as an iPod Touch though I haven't done anything with the Touch yet, it is a Christmas gift for my son.

First generation:

Second generation:

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

If you are having to load it, I recommend the largest size storage you can get, so you can put so much on there, you won't have to do it very often, or change it out...

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

thx for the information on the sansa, Heat. I wasnt able to find the 4gb model on buy for the price u mentioned, but i found it on amazon for $43 w/ free shipping and i have free trial of prime too which makes it better. so im gonna order that and the external wall charger for $3 and that keeps me under my $50 limit haha.

chrisedge, luckily she doesnt have that many cds so it shouldnt be a repetitive thing...i hope haha

thanks for all the recommendations, i appreciate it!

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

You could load it up with some podcasts.

Check out "Savage Love" and "Sick and Wrong".

Re: MP3 player suggestion?

Costco currently has the 8GB Fuze player on sale for $59. You can add an 8GB storage chip for another $20. Total $79+tax for 16GB player. Not bad.
