Adobe trying to make me buy Acrobat to read PDF files

My sister is in high school and whenever she tries to open PDF files for class she gets a pop up demanding that she purchase Adobe Acrobat before she can continue reading the document. This is weird because on either of our other two computers the documents open fine, and they do not have Acrobat reader. I've tried troubleshooting this many different ways and even tried different browsers, but I keep getting the pop up. Any ideas what might be going on here?

there is a free adobe reader. maybe you have the adobe thing installed on your computer that triggers that popup. sort of like a free trial thing.

Possibly she at one time installed the 30 day free trial of Adobe Acrobat. I expect that if she goes to Control Panel and then Remove Programs and searches for Adobe Acrobat and then removes it -- AND THEN downloads and installs the free Adobe Acrobat READER (Not Adobe Acrobat, but the reader only - available here http://get.adobe.com/reader/) that her problems will be solved. WHEW! Is that a run-on sentence by any chance?

Also you may want to try Foxit rather than Adobe Reader. It's lightweight and works pretty well.

I'll second the recomendation for Foxit. I still don't understand why the Acrobat reader is such a huge file.

Another vote for FoxIt.
