Any Handbrake experts out there? (Mac video conversion software)

So I have a 720p .mkv video I want to convert to .mp4 I can play on my PS3 or through Quicktime. I ran it through Handbrake, and the video works just fine, but the audio is very choppy. I just used the default settings they have for PS3, so would this just be a setting I need to tweak? Thanks!

The file in question is episode 1 of the new season of Top Gear... would be nice to watch it on my TV instead of my computer!

it takes awhile but you might be better off just using Playstion media server and transcoding it over. If you go to the media server, find the file and hit triangle to copy it should send it over in a ps3 playable format as the ps3 will encode it as it copies. At least that works for me.

Handbrake is crap overall. It's really bad on windows and moderately better on Mac. One of the slowest converters on the market and a bit buggy. However with that said, which pre-set were you using?

I've experienced that as well with converting some 720p .mkv files to my 360 and/or iPhone. I think it has more to do with the .mkv then Handbrake. Wish I had a solution for you but I don't, sorry. :(

it's awesome

i don't have a lot of time for movies these days and my wife and i haven't watched one in years. i know someone that gets unofficial pre-release versions of movies. i use handbrake to convert from avi to iphone format and will watch it in a few parts while on the train to/from work.

all you do is point it to the source file, make a destination file name, choose your format and let it run. i think next week i'll try to run it on vmware on one of our 8 CPU core monsters at work

when my son is older i'll probably start watching stuff on dvd/blu-ray again

Post how that goes. I'd love to hear how it performs.

I love Handbrake and find it does a great job. I am still using 0.9.2 as I felt that .3 was over-compressing and effecting quality. I haven't checked to see if a newer version is out. The dog I got still hunts so I've been sticking with it.

I see I failed to post that I use a MacBook Pro. Also, I was using the PS3 preset. I'll mess with transcoding and see what happens.

Sweet! Downloaded PS3 Media Server and it seems to transcode the file just fine :) Thanks!
