What is ECC ram? What is the difference between these two ram sticks?

But seriously, ECC is error-correcting RAM which is more tolerant (detects and corrects itself) to memory errors that almost never occur anymore. Unless you have a mission-critical server, this type of RAM is a waste. But since it costs virtually the same, you could get it and use the ECC ability if your motherboard supports it.

Be aware that you need all ECC memory to get the ECC functionality. If you mix it with non-ECC type, it all will revert to non-ECC.

For CL3 type memory, these are WAY too expensive.
