Here's a great deal for those who do not visit other forums

I bought one of these and want to know what type of RAM i need for it. I've heard that not all 256 meg sticks work on all boards. This is a Soyo SY-K7VIA Athlon ATX Motherboard. Can anyone tell me how to tell if the RAM will work with this board?

SOYO boards with Intel processors are not too picky (one of my favorite board companies) with the Athlon, I am not sure.

You can never go wrong with Micron brand (aka Crucial)

Kingston, Viking, PNY, and Simple tech work well with Soyo also.

Well I was looking at the ones on pricewatch which are Generic brand. Most of them just say no Intel Mboards and that it should work with Athalon ones. I guess it could just be worth it to go with the name brands.

one other quick question. What is the advantage of 1 256 over 2 128's? i know it will take up another slot but i doubt i'd need more than 256 and it'll still leave one slot open.

The only reason I suggest this is cuz the only cheap 256 sticks i can find are generic and i dont want the hassle of it being incompatible

Saving slots is the only issue. (2) 128's will run the same as (1) 256.
