software to show most used programs?

Hello,
is there any software that will show the most used programs on my PC? I'm running Vista and am curious to know what the top 20 or so programs are that I use.

make a list on a piece of paper with the name of every program you open. Then the next time you open that program, make a check mark next to it. Do this for every program you use. Soon, you will know. Et Viola.

Assuming you have the default settings for Vista, the start menu has a list of the recently used programs and the most used usually makes it to the top of the list. Unless you want actual numbers of how many times you've opened a particular app; this should be good enough, no?

Re: software to show most used programs?

I was more after a top twenty or fifty. I'm reinstalling my OS and wanted to get a handy list of programs to reinstall.

I've pretty much just looked at the start menu and written down the name of the programs I recognise and use.

Go into Control Panel -> Programs and Features. This is the old "Add/Remove Programs" view from XP. By default, the "Used" column is turned off. Right-click on the column title (like "Name" or something) and click More... Then select "Used" as a column detail choice. This will then list the frequency you have used all of the programs you have installed (rarely, frequently, occasionally, etc.) Not exactly what you want but should do. You can also select "Last Used On" as a detail choice and see how long it's been since you used something.

Thanks Numanoid, that's exactly what I was after.

Wakoopa has a free program you can download to track your program usage. It only tracks starting from when you installed the tracker though.

It's not likely to help if you're going to re-install your OS in the next day or so, but it may come in handy on your new install to see how you use the programs you install.

I don't think I even have 20 programs installed on my computer.
